In Memory of William “Bill” L. Waggoner
William “Bill” Leonard Waggoner, 69, died on October 10, 2025 at his home in Hayward WI.
He was born on July 27, 1956, in Superior, WI to William J. Waggoner and Evelyn E. (Faber) Waggoner.
Bill was raised in Minong, WI where he graduated from Northwood High School in 1974. He was a talented athlete who played basketball, baseball, and football in his youth and well into adulthood. He played sports from the time he could walk until his knee cartilage no longer allowed it. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing.
He was blessed with two daughters, Jennifer in 1974 and Jessica in 1977.
Bill worked for Washburn County in the 70s and 80s, living with his family at Totogatic Park as the park ranger. He later made a career in construction, being sure to point out to his children every building he had ever worked on.
He was an enthusiastic fan of all Wisconsin sports teams, especially the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers. He enjoyed westerns, a cold Mountain Dew, hot coffee, learning about history, Dark Milky Way candy bars, Looney Tunes, giving whisker rubs, visiting with family and friends, and telling hilarious stories.
His wit, silliness, and compassion were unmatched. He quoted obscure television commercials, changed song lyrics to suit his sense of humor, and was the most friendly, funny, and animated man. Curiosity and empathy guided his decision making and how he lived his life. Forever the Midwestern dad, he could not fall asleep unless he knew all his loved ones were safe and sound.
Bill is survived by his beloved partner JoAnn Trepania, his daughters Jennifer (Michael) Hartling, and Jessica (Marcus) Anderson, 6 grandchildren; Danielle Ashley (Tyler Murto), Avery (Kaitlin) Jennings, Ty Anderson, Connor Anderson, Levi Anderson, 2 great grandsons, his brother James (Karen) Waggoner, and Bethany Carly whom he raised as his own, and her daughters Rylee and Anaya.
While the above is true, our dad faced personal struggles that became unbearable. As a result, he ended his own life.
As our family is mourning the tragic loss of our dad and papa, we want to remind anyone who is struggling that help is available. For compassionate and confidential support please call or text the Suicide Crisis Lifeline at 988.
A memorial gathering is being held for Bill from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at the Frog Creek Town Hall, N13010 Frog Creek Road, Minong, WI 54859.
