In Memory of William “BJ” Homann

June 21, 1987 - December 12, 2024

William “BJ” Homann passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at the age of 37 in Rice Lake, WI.

He was born on Father’s Day, June 21, 1987 to Michael and Arla Homann (Pachal) in Park Falls, WI. After graduating from Park Falls High School in 2006, he attended UW-Eau Claire and then UW-La Crosse, where he graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with a minor in mathematics. He worked initially in food science where he enjoyed learning about cheesemaking. He settled in Rice Lake, WI working as foreman of the Rice Lake Utilities Wastewater Department. He was passionate about keeping our waterways safe and clean, and managing forest property by battling invasive species. He took pride in providing for his family by gardening and deer hunting and was most at home cooking an impressive variety of dishes. He continually aspired to improve next year’s garden plan, delighted when a brew recipe turned out well, and thrilled with every agate discovered. He thrived exploring nature’s beautiful places, such as national and state parks and any beach along Lake Superior.

He married his high school sweetheart Karlie (Gottwald) October 13, 2012. Over their 22 year relationship, they looked to the future side by side: encouraging each other to grow, sharing any burden, and savoring each and every joy brought by their deep and abiding love. Most of all, he was a devoted father to their three cherished sons: Calvin (8), Ansel (6), and Arlo (3).

He is survived by his wife, children, and parents in addition to his beloved little sisters Rebecca (Kevin) Knapp and Michelle Homann, both of Madison, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He touched so many lives in so many ways and is missed by family and friends including his martial arts community, who saw him attain the rank of black belt in Pshi Kai Do Karate.

He was preceded in death by grandparents Duane and Janet Pachal and William and Jane Homann, uncle James Pachal, and cousin Jeremiah Pachal.

A celebration of life will be held at the Rice Lake Elks Lodge from 1-5 PM on Saturday, January 4, 2025. In lieu of flowers, his sister Michelle has organized a GoFundMe: Support for BJ Homann’s Family.
