February 25, 1937 - June 11, 2026

William D. Boersma, age 89, of Spider Lake Township, Hayward, WI passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at Dove Healthcare in Spooner, WI.

William D. Boersma was born February 25, 1937, in Chicago, IL the son of William and Edna (Carlstrom) Boersma.

Bill was raised in Chesterton, IN and attended school there. After he graduated from Chesterton High School, Bill started an apprenticeship with the American Federation of Labor in Gary, IN learning the building trade. He then went to work for Babilla Incorporated in Gary, IN and then Eichleay Construction in Miller, IN where he worked as a construction superintendent. He spent some of his career in Hollidaysburg, PA and Evansville, IN working in industrial plant construction.

Bill married Virginia (Jeanie) Clemonds on October 29, 1960, in Harvey, Illinois.

In 1968, Bill and Virginia purchased property on Teal Lake in Spider Lake Township. Bill constructed a cabin at his parent’s Chesterton, IN farm, which he disassembled and moved, piece by piece, to the Teal Lake property in April, 1970. They moved to Teal Lake in 1972 where he operated Boersma Construction Company until 2005 when he retired.

Throughout Bill’s life he enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, cookouts on McKnot Island, canoeing trips in the Boundary Waters, fishing trips to Canada and trips to Alaska. He was a lifetime member of Quiet Lakes Improvement Association.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Sue Boersma (Jim McNamee) of Hayward; two granddaughters, Cassidy Gould (Nolan Gay) and Riley Gould; his cousin Robert Carlson and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virginia; and sister, Dorothy Lawson.

A memorial service will be held for Bill at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 19, 2026, at the Hayward Funeral Home. A time of gathering will be starting one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
