In Memory of Zino Harold Tully

July 16, 1949 - December 23, 2016

July 16, 1949 - December 23, 2016

Zino Harold Tully Jr., age 87, formerly of Spooner, WI, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 23, 2016 at Glenview Assisted Living in Shell Lake, WI. He was born May 13, 1929 in Spooner, the son of Zino and Edna (Thompson) Tully.  He was united in marriage to Jean Phyllis Ness on July 16, 1949 in Lampson, WI.

Zino was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Shell Lake and proudly served his country in the Wisconsin National Guard. He spent the last 20 years of his working career as an institutional foods salesman with Upper Lake Foods out of Cloquet, retiring in 1991.  Zino was an avid outdoorsman enjoying multiple activities with his family and friends. Depending on the season, he was hunting, fishing, canoeing, cross country skiing, snow shoeing or golfing. His daily “warm up” for years was a four mile walk through town at sunrise. He recruited a number of close friends over the years to join him in “the best part of the day.” He also enjoyed heading up to “The Farm” in Lampson to cut and split wood. For  years he chose to split it the old fashioned way, by maul.  He said, “it’s a good workout”.  Zino was a big  sports fan cheering on the home town Rails along with the Badgers, Packers and Brewers.  He also spent time grooming trails for the Glide and Stride Cross Country Ski Club.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Jean of Shell Lake; his children, Trudy (Joe) Gronski of Spooner, WI and Tom (Mary) Tully of Brookfield, WI; his grandchildren, Greg (fiancé Allison Allatt) Gronski of Spooner, WI, Benjamin Tully of Minneapolis, MN and Jacob Tully of Milwaukee, WI; his great-grandchildren, Sam, Adler and Simon Allatt; and many dear friends.

Zino was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at Salem Lutheran Church, 803 2nd Street N in Shell Lake, where visitation will be held from 10:30 A.M. until the hour of the service.  Rev. Sue Odegard will officiate.  Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Regional Hospice, 15910 W Company Lake Road #3, Hayward, WI 54843 or Glenview Assisted Living, 201 Glenview Lane, Shell Lake, WI 54871 or Salem Lutheran Church.
