Former Clear Lake Postal Employee Sentenced For Stealing Postal Funds

MADISON, WIS. – Chadwick M. Elgersma, Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Michael Dzieweczynski, 32, Clear Lake, Wisconsin, was sentenced yesterday by Chief U.S. District Judge James D. Peterson to 3 years of federal probation for stealing postal money orders. Dzieweczynski pleaded guilty to this charge on April 22, 2025. He was also ordered to pay restitution.

Dzieweczynski worked as a sales and distribution associate for the U.S. Postal Service in Stoddard, Wisconsin. While at work, he issued to himself eight postal money orders without paying for them. The total amount of money orders was $5,700 and they individually ranged in amounts from $150 to $1,000. He also provided false information on daily financial reports indicating the money orders were paid for. In an interview with investigators, Dzieweczynski admitted stealing the money orders and falsifying reports to pay for home repairs.

At sentencing, Judge Peterson characterized Dzieweczynski’s offense as self-destructive and expressed concern over Dzieweczynski’s challenges with alcohol and financial pressures. Judge Peterson relied on Dzieweczynski’s ongoing challenges and his efforts to manage them as justification for imposing a sentence of federal supervision.

The charge against Dzieweczynski was the result of an investigation conducted by the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Steven Ayala and Jennifer Remington prosecuted this case.
