Want to Improve Wisconsin’s Schools? Follow Mississippi’s Lead

It wasn't that long ago that leftist protestors were claiming Act 10 would cause Wisconsin to turn into "Wississippi" -- a clear and negative comparison to the educations outcomes of the Magnolia State.

It's no longer the slight it was intended to be 14 years ago. Mississippi has seen tremendous academic improvement over the last decade and is now looked at as an example of what to do right. Mississippi now ranks first in the nation in fourth grade reading, fourth grade math, and eighth grade reading, and fourth nationally in eighth grade math.

Dan O'Donnell says that Wisconsin, too, can see a miraculous turnaround in student performance, if DPI stops changing standards to make education bureaucrats look better. Read more here.

Ed Reformers Worry About Wisconsin Report Card Changes

The state’s Department of Public Instruction on Monday announced plans to “review” and “update” the state’s report cards, meaning Wisconsin parents will likely see different report cards next year. The worry, according to education reformers in Wisconsin, is that DPI changed the state's learning standards last fall.
