UPDATE: Armed Standoff In Sawyer County Ends Peacefully With Arrest

SAWYER COUNTY — Authorities have safely taken a Hayward man into custody following an armed standoff that began over the weekend in the Town of Round Lake.

At approximately 3:27p today, June 16, 2025, the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from multiple other agencies, arrested 62-year-old Michael Dean Olsen without further incident. Olsen was transported to the Sawyer County Jail and is currently being held pending multiple felony charges.

The arrest is connected to the June 15, 2025, incident in which Olsen reportedly entered an unoccupied residence on Sun-N-Sno Road while armed with multiple firearms. According to law enforcement, Olsen had no affiliation with the homeowners. The standoff prompted a large-scale law enforcement response and a request for the public to avoid the area while negotiations took place.

No injuries were reported, and authorities confirmed there was no danger to the public during the incident.

Additional information regarding the case is expected to be released on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.

SAWYER COUNTY — An armed individual has barricaded themself inside an unoccupied residence in the Town of Round Lake, prompting an active response from the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office, according to a press release from the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office.

On June 15, 2025 at approximately 11:58 am, Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a subject who entered an unoccupied residence on Sun-N-Sno Road in the Town of Round Lake. The owners of the residence have no affiliation with the subject. The initial call reported the subject was armed with multiple firearms.

Attempts have been made since the initial call to encourage the subject to cooperate and exit the residence. Negotiations are on-going and this is an active scene.

Currently, the subject is contained inside the residence and there is no danger to the public.

The Sheriff’s Office is requesting that the public avoid the area of Sun-N-Sno Road. The Sheriff’s Office will update as information becomes available.
