In Memory of William E. Maurer

October 27, 1943 - May 21, 2025

William Ernest Maurer, lovingly known as Bill, was called to heaven in the early hours of May 21, 2025.

Born on October 27, 1943, to Galen and Dorothy Maurer, Bill was one of eight children—a blessing that made for many lively family celebrations and close-knit gatherings. He grew up in Balsam Lake, Wisconsin, where he enjoyed swimming and exploring the outdoors.

After graduating from high school, Bill attended one semester at the University of Wisconsin–River Falls before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed in Guam, where he spent time beachcombing and collecting seashells—many of which he kept as cherished mementos.

Upon returning home, Bill fell head over heels in love with Sharon Dobberschutz. They were married on August 1, 1970, and shared nearly 50 beautiful years together. They were blessed with two daughters, Kelly and Ginger, whom he loved deeply and unconditionally.

Bill had a true passion for singing. He was a proud member of his church choir and found great joy in singing with others in harmony. His powerful voice was a gift he shared generously. Bill also loved playing poker and cribbage during family gatherings, often at a table full of coins, laughter, and stories. Known for his warmth, wisdom, and gentle humor, he was always ready with thoughtful advice and kind words for those who sought them.

Bill is survived by his two daughters, Kelly (Rich) Despiegelaere of Centuria, and Ginger (Kerry) Jensen of Osceola; his grandchildren, Nick, Dannielle, Alexis, Jacob, and Madeline; his great-grandchildren, Ella and Braiden; and his siblings Barb, Neleeta, Nancy, and Galen.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sharon; his parents, Dorothy and Galen; and his siblings Carol, Larry, and Judy.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at Williamson-White Funeral Home in Amery, WI. Funeral services will be at 11:00am on Thursday, May 29, 2025 at Holy Trinity United Methodist Church in Centuria, WI with a visitation one hour prior. Burial will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery in Turtle Lake, WI.
