In Memory of Jerald H. Solum
Jerald Henry "Jerry" Solum, 67, of Cumberland, died Thursday, June 26, 2025, at Barron Care & Rehab. He was born June 4, 1958, in Cumberland, WI to Roger Solum and Wanda (Severson) (Solum) Lau and graduated from Cumberland High School.
Jerry joined the Wisconsin National Guard and served eight years. He worked for over twenty years as a machinist for Falcon Drill and then another 9 years in maintenance at Walmart in Rice Lake.
Jerry enjoyed his solitude but came out of his shell when he was spending time with his many dear friends. He found a great deal of peace and pleasure in his hobbies, tending his trap lines, deer hunting and trout fishing area streams and rivers. He loved animals and for several years raised hogs (all named Arnold) some of which he would enter in the Barron County Fair. He also had cattle and exotic chickens for some time. His tender heart was evident in how he cared for his animals. His pigs were, without a doubt, the cleanest in the county. “Brown Noser” the steer and his cat “Smoky Blue Hills” were among some of his favorites. He also enjoyed collecting and organizing old coins, watching the Packers, keeping up with the activities and achievements of his nieces, of whom he was so proud. He was a gentle soul with a great laugh, a sparkle of joy always reaching his eyes when something was funny.
He leaves behind many fond memories with his brother, Bob (Jeanine) Solum of Cumberland; nieces and nephews: Montana (Orry) Fruit of Fort Benton, MT, and their sons, Jack and Jett, Bobbi Solum of Tucson, AZ, and Shelby Solum of Minneapolis, MN; many cousins and friends. Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Roger Solum, and his mother, Wanda (Tom) Lau.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11am on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at Shell Lake Full Gospel Church with Pastor Josiah Hodgett officiating. Visitation begins at 10am. A lunch will be provided immediately following the service. Military honors will be accorded by the Anderson-Thompson Post 98 American Legion at East Cumberland (Section 10) Cemetery after the meal.
