In Memory of Michael J. Brunette
It’s with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Jerry Brunette. At the age of 41, Michael passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, July 21th, 2025 at his home in West Fargo, North Dakota.
Michael was born on August 11, 1983, in Rice Lake, Wisconsin, to Jerry and Laura Brunette. From the time he could crawl, it was clear that Michael had an extraordinary gift for music. What began with toy harmonicas and spirited childhood singalongs quickly grew into something remarkable. One unforgettable moment came during the 'Remember When' talent show in high school, where Michael brought down the house with a dynamic performance of Jerry Lee Lewis's 'Great Balls of Fire' on a grand piano. His natural talent and stage presence left no doubt—Michael was something truly special.
After graduating from Rice Lake High School in 2001, Michael pursued his love of music at Music Tech in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His passion and talent led him to perform with various bands, touring across the country and opening for well-known artists such as Lady Antebellum and Zac Brown. A standout moment in his career came in 2006, when he took the Aquafest stage to open for Sawyer Brown—an experience he treasured deeply, performing for his hometown crowd alongside his band. Among his many musical accomplishments, one he was especially proud of was appearing in a music video with Jake McVey, which aired nationally on CMT.
Taking a step out of the limelight, Michael made Fargo his home, where he met his wife, Jennie Danielson. Together, they raised two beautiful sons, Miles Jerry and Atlas Brian and stepdaughter Braeley. Not only did these two sons bring Michael incredible joy, but they also gave his life purpose and another generation to share his love of music. He worked at the Elevate School of Rock teaching children music and also played christian rock music at Prairie Heights Church.
Michael then pursued a degree in graphic design, proudly graduating with a 4.0 GPA and earning a prestigious award in design. Soon after graduation, he began his professional career at Butler Machinery and a few other design companies until his passing. Michael's vibrant spirit and quick wit filled every room with laughter. He had a gift for turning everyday moments into something unforgettable—whether it was a harmless prank on an unsuspecting solicitor or one of his famously outrageous videos shared with the world. Michael never passed up a chance to make us smile, and his humor remains one of the many beautiful ways he stays with us.
Michael is proceeded in death by his beloved father, Jerry Brunette, grandparents Douglas & Mila Brunette, Clinton & Stella Carlaw, Phil Dugan, and David Healing.
He is survived by his two sons, Miles Brunette and Atlas Brunette, mother Laura Brunette, sister Nicky (Scott) Gehrman, niece Penelope Gehrman, his grandma/Oma Erika Healing, and many other loving family and friends.
A Celebration of Life honoring Michael will be held on Sunday, August 10, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Narrow’s Park in Rice Lake, WI. All are welcome to join us in remembering Michael, sharing stories, and celebrating the joy he brought into our lives.
